Support for Our Community

October 9, 2023

To our Temerty Medicine community:

As we bear witness to the terrifying and devastating events unfolding in Israel, we stand firmly with the international community in strongly condemning violence and urging a path forward toward a peaceful resolution.

Many in our Temerty Medicine community are deeply concerned for family members, friends and colleagues in the region. We stand with you and share the heartbreak wrought by this escalating violence and the senseless loss of life.

For those who may be feeling overwhelmed and in need of extra support over the long weekend, I urge you to use our U of T services: Learners can connect with 24/7 support through U of T Telus Health Student Support. Staff and faculty can access the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) toll-free at 1-855-597-2110. Physicians can also access service through the Ontario Medical Association at 1-800-851-6606.

Please be kind and thoughtful to all who may be in distress. Compassion, kindness and respect must guide our actions.

Sincerely,

Patricia Houston, MD MEd FRCPC
Interim Dean, Temerty Faculty of Medicine
Vice Dean Medical Education, Temerty Faculty of Medicine
